Patriarchal Society
The patriarchal Society was the Priest and elites in the temple.
The temple elites were also the economic elites and the purity elites.
They received tax that had been collected and where only just under the king in terms of power, sometimes stronger.
Patriarchal society was both:

- There was no industry except small scale hand crafts

- kept 66% of the amount of money made through peasant society through:
- Taxation: there where taxes on agricultural produce to be paid to the temple authorities
- Land rent: paying to stay on there house of use some land
- the urban ruling elites where wealthy yet never produced anything themselves and it was uncommon for them to provide any service except men for soldiers during war.
Purity System
Purity was one of the biggest structures in Jesus society:
- Purity was not an individual virtue
- Purity was politicly gained
- It was the ideology of the temple elites
- The Jerusalem temple was geographically and symbolically used as the centre of the purity system
